The brief
Maré had been canning sardines on the same quay for three generations, but its shelf presence had drifted into supermarket beige. The family wanted to sell in delis in Paris and Copenhagen without pretending to be something they weren’t.
What we made
We spent two weeks in the factory’s attic photographing every label they’d ever printed. The new identity borrows the slightly wonky brush lettering of a 1957 tin, paired with a strict grid that lets each species carry its own colour. Twelve SKUs, one system, no stock illustration.
Sales in export markets grew 40% in the first year, and the original label painter’s granddaughter now draws the seasonal editions.
